Abstract

In order to investigate the electrochemical characteristics of ZrN coated Ti-Nb alloys by using RF-sputtering method, the Ti containing Nb up to 3 wt%, 20 wt% and 40 wt% were melted by using a vacuum arc melting. Ti-XNb alloys were homogenized for 24 hr at 1050 ¡É. The samples were cut and polished for corrosion test and RF coating. The specimens were coated with ZrN having various § order thickness, respectively, by RF-magnetron sputtering method. The microstructures were observed by using optical microscopy(BX60M, Olympus Co, Japan) and field emission scanning electron microscope(S-4200, Hitachi Co, Japan). The corrosion behaviors were investigated using potentiostat (EG&G Co, 263A, USA) in 0.9 % NaCl solution at 36.5 ¡¾ 1 ¡É and corrosion surface was observed using optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDX; KEVEX, USA) These results shows from corrosion test that corrosion resistance of ZrN coated Ti-Nb alloys were higher than those of the non-coated Ti-Na alloys. That meas indicating better protective effect.
